FIC: Lament

Title: Lament
Characters: Ten and Donna
Spoilers: Planet of the Ood
Author's Notes: Just watched Planet of the Ood. Subsequently committed drabble. So here it is, a tiny h/c missing scene. (Thanks to wendymr  for suggesting a title that worked better.)

“But you can still hear it!” she nearly sobs.

“All the time,” he replies, barely able to hear his own voice through the overpowering song.

It’s too much, too loud. He should turn away, but he can’t. He’s transfixed.

He bows his head until his forehead bangs against the bars. The song fills his mind.

Captivity. Anguish. Despair.

Suddenly, there are hands on his face, pulling him away.

It’s Donna. Why has she put her hands there? She can’t contact his mind this way.

She isn’t trying to. She’s wiping away his tears.

“We’ll help them,” she says resolutely.

“Yes.”

Brilliant! I loved that scene in the episode, and your drabble did it full justice.

Donna is simply wonderful, and she and the Doctor make for a perfect team together. The depth of understanding she has was shown last week when she helped the Doctor pull the lever that was to destroy Pompeii, and affirmed again this week. You really payed homage to this in this drabble.

In having the Doctor cry in this little piece, you also allowed a very real moment of h/c - he was near tears in the actual episode, so your drabble really fits in, and is very acurate, emotionally. It's somehow very subtle, this moral, emotional aching you portrayed. The Doctor's compassion and empathy becoming too much to bear, only for him to be rescued by Donna's compassion and empathy. That's what friends are for :-)

He looked so close to tears when that scene ended, and then when we see them again they're both standing and looking composed, so we know a little moment or two of time has passed in between. My mind automatically fills in little missing moments like that with H/C, and thus you get drabbles like this one.

I couldn't have said it better. Donna is turning out to be a friend he can rely on.

Thanks for reading and commenting! :-)

You know, I hadn't thought of it that way. Makes perfect sense.

Then I guess we're all grateful for the way your mind works :-)

As long as folks enjoy reading the end result, I'm happy. :-)

greetings

This is adaliazandra's fic journal, which she hadn't planned to use very often. That plan has since been defenestrated in favor of posting fic update notices and rambles about DW and TW.

If you note the spiffy paid-account layout, that's because nightrider101 is simply the most wonderful person ever! :-)

If I seem to have disappeared off the face of the Internet, it's because I probably did. I don't actually *like* suddenly ignoring my LJ friends and leaving my stories hanging, though, so odds are I'll be back eventually.
