Testing Testing 1 2 3

Okay, here's a dry run for the controls I'll need for the OT3 fic. If you see this entry (Doctor Who person or not!) please try the player controls below and let me know in a comment if you have any trouble playing and hearing the sound files. Click once to activate the control, and if the audio does not automatically start then click again on the play button.

It's been a real bear to get working, so cross your fingers. If you see this post and it is clearly broken looking, just sit tight. I'm working on it...

File One - Alarm Clock DIE!, composed by Yours Truly, which I hope is self explanatory when you hear it. :-)

File Two - The System Is Down Short Remix, from Homestar Runner, short remix by me for use as my Windows Shut Down jingle.

File Three - I actually don't know what this one is called... it's something that's been floating around amongst my other music files for years. If you recognize it, post a comment!

Let me know what you think, and if you have any trouble with or ideas/comments about the player controls.

Thanks! :-)

Oops. I finally got them to look right and play properly, only to realize that I'm not multi-browser compatible. As of this post, I know for sure that the controls look and work right in IE 7.

I normally use Firefox 2, and right now the controls are a bit broke in that browser. From what I can tell, Firefox wants to use a different plugin for the embed tag, causing formatting issues.

::bangs head on wall::

As I said, I'm working on it...

There's a funky image/placeholder in Firefox but if you click it the controls show up so you can play, pause, etc. Sound comes over just fine. Where are you hosting the sound files?

That's what I meant by click once to activate the control.

Are you looking at the entry just on your flist? Could you try actually going to the entry's page, and tell me what happens?

I was having trouble with Firefox not showing the controls properly (you should see a tiny track bar, play/pause, and stop control), and then it was autoplaying all three at once and causing a huge mess. But I think I've fixed both issues now.

Actually, I think if you go the entry page instead of your flist, you won't even need to click to activate the control.

What happens when you try it?

Relax. *pats*

If I go to the entry page instead of my friends page the controls load automatically. There is no sound until I press "play". Then the sound quality is fine and it plays until either it's done or I stop it using the controls. The only thing remotely weird is all the vertical space between files, but that's not enough to be a real concern.

Hey, you relax after spending two days trying to make stupid little player controls embed, load, and play properly inside of an LJ entry on both IE7 and FF2. ::grumbles good naturedly::

Anyway. I've been messing around with the formatting on and off for the last hour and a half. If you look again, they should all be left alligned just underneath their intro blurb, without too much white space below them before the next blurb.

My mom is having trouble loading it in Firefox now, though mine still works. There is no rhyme or reason to this! ::grumbles again::

Much better.

No I can totally relate, I go crazy with this kind of thing. I'm thinking of resurrecting my music blog and going nuts because I want to keep the existing entries (well, I deleted half of them - I hope not any I wanted to keep! - but the ones I didn't delete should stay up there and I can restore some of the others if necessary) but I don't want them to show up on the front page right now. I just want them to hide in archives because I at least currently feel like I'm taking a completely different spin with the blog, and I want to start over new, fresh, etc. Part of me is thinking I should just make a new blog but for some reason I really want to keep this one. Stubbornness, I guess. Go fig.

Anyways it's dumb 'cause Blogger is owned/controlled by Google and I use different accounts for that blog vs my email so if I want to do anything with it I have to sign out of email and log into Blogger - what a pain in the butt! So I decided to download Netscape and use that when updating my blog, so I can stay logged in to both services (what a concept!) - except that the brand new spiffy browser I just downloaded apparently lacks the plugins I need to view YouTube videos (and other media). WTF?! Firefox is far superior.

I'm so spastic. You asked where I'm hosting the audio... it's a site called FileAve.com.

Sweet! Just what I've been wishing I had for my music blog! Thanks!

Finding that site and getting it working was half my battle.

The other half has been forcing LJ to behave across both IE7 and FF2.

But ::crosses fingers:: I think I've done it! :-D

Yeah, seems like you're successful. Good job. Now go to bed.
(I need to do so myself. Yay insomnia. Not cool.)

Everything sounds great on my end. :) I'm looking forward to seeing how all this fits into your story! You've grabbed my interest already!

Nearly ready to post it... :-)

Adalia Zandra

This is adaliazandra's fic journal, which she hadn't planned to use very often. That plan has since been defenestrated in favor of posting fic update notices and rambles about DW and TW.

If you note the spiffy paid-account layout, that's because nightrider101 is simply the most wonderful person ever! :-)

If I seem to have disappeared off the face of the Internet, it's because I probably did. I don't actually *like* suddenly ignoring my LJ friends and leaving my stories hanging, though, so odds are I'll be back eventually.
